Jiansheng Zhang is Foreign Member of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Professor and doctoral supervisor of Department of Energy and Power Engineering, Tsinghua University. He was selected into the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, and won the titles of "Scientific Chinese", "Influential Figure in China's Petroleum and chemical industry", "Contemporary Inventor of the 11th Invention Entrepreneurship Award".

Professor Zhang has served as the director of the National 863, 973, Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program. Research interests of Professor Zhang include clean coal utilization, coal gasification, pollution control and hydrogen energy. Professor Zhang has developed three generations of tsinghua gasifier technology with independent intellectual property rights. The innovative engineering project of the world's first commercial-scale coal water slurry wall gasifier, the world's first commercial-scale coal water slurry wall waste pot gasifier and the world's first commercial-scale oxygen classification coal water slurry gasifier has been completed.

Professor Zhang won the second prize of national scientific and technological progress research, the Prize of the technical invention and technology progress of Ministry of Education, the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress of China Petroleum and Chemical Association, the Special Prize of Science and Technology Progress of China Coal Industry Association, the Special Prize of Technology Progress of Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, the Gold Prize of Geneva International Invention Award, the Gold Prize of China Technology Market Association, the First Prize of Invention and Entrepreneurship Achievement of China Invention Association, the Special Prize of the 11th Invention And Entrepreneurship Award etc. Professor Zhang has applied for more than 200 patents and obtained more than 80 patent licenses, one of which won the 22nd China Patent Gold Award. He has also obtained one invention patent in 13 countries and regions including the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe by PCT method.

Professor Zhang has published more than 180 papers and 4 monographs domestic and overseas.
