Areas of Research Interests/ Research Projects
The objective of my research is to develop optimization based methodologies and computation tools that enable plant designers and decision makers to analyse, design and evaluate complex energy systems which are economically attractive, energy efficient, and environmentally benign, while at the same time exhibit excellent characteristics, like flexibility, controllability, robustness, reliability, and safety. My research mainly focuses on the following fields:
Polygeneration related technologies, including: coal/biomass gasification, synthesis gas cleanup, CO2capture and sequestration, chemical fuel synthesis, gas turbine/steam turbine combined cycle for power generation
Distributed energy systems and integration issues within such systems
Energy infrastructure planning, for instance, pipeline network planning for transporting CO2at supercritical state in large-scale carbon capture and sequestration
Modelling and optimization methodologies and their applications in energy systems. These technologies include mixed-integer programming over process superstructure, multi-objective optimization considering both economic and environmental benefits, optimization under uncertainty for process planning and design over a long-term horizon.
