----Division of National Energy Strategy Study

The State Key Laboratory on Control and Simulation of Power Systems and Generation Equipment started its construction in 1989 and the State Key Lab was officially approved by the government in 1995. Since then, it was scored “A”(excellent) in the official evaluation organized by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science & Technology three time consecutively (1998， 2003, 2008). The Division of Thermal Power Systems Control and the Division of National Energy Strategy Study were found in 1991 and 2008, respectively, and the current director is Prof. Zheng Li for department of Thermal Engineering. The two division mainly rely on the Institute of Simulation and Control for Thermal Power Engineering (ISCTPE), currently have 13 official faculty members ( 1 academician of Engineering Academy of China, 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 assistant professors). The main research fields include modeling, simulation and control of thermal power systems, advanced measurement, fault diagnosis for power engineering system, and energy system analysis and strategy study etc.

The two divisions are on the leading edge on both education and research. Till now, the divisions have successfully taken many national research projects such as the National Key Technology R&D Programs, the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China(863 Program), and the National Basic Research Program (973 Program). The divisions have developed world leading simulation technology of power plant, conducted research on simulation theory and method and process control technology, been awarded several national and provincial prize, and published more than 10 monographs. Among them, there are: “Top Ten National Science & Technology Achievements” and the first prize of “National Science and Technology Improvement” in 1992, and the second prize of “National Science and Technology Improvement” in 2006. Currently, the divisions have established an advanced thermal engineering measurement lab for key topic for energy and conducted online coal elementary measurement based on Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy and physical chemical property of super critical CO2 mixture; the divisions have also constructed a world class research platform for energy system and energy strategy and conducted research such as national long-term energy develop strategy, guideline for CCS in China, Chinese sustainable urban transport, alternative energy develop strategy for china, national long-term energy saving strategy, hydrogen energy develop roadmap, and China micro energy system development. All these studies have been very important for the energy policy making for china.Meanwhile, the divisions have strong connection with national and international industry and academia. There is very good relation between the divisions and large scale international company and famous universities such as BP, GM, MHI, Siemens, MIT, Princeton、Stanford、and Cambridge.
