The R&D of wind turbine aerodynamics and wind assessment at Mie University is introduced to the students. The contents of the talk are as follows:
1. Field Rotor Research
The unsteady aerodynamics on wind turbine is much complicated. The load acting on 10-m field rotor blade is measured. The wake behind wind turbine is also measured for developing new wake model.
2. Airfoil Development
Under the unsteady wind conditions, the angle of attack changes with large amplitude. The new airfoils for the wind turbine are developed by measuring the section performance in dynamic state.
3. Rotor Aerodynamics
The detail flow around a rotor and the aerodynamic load are measured in wind tunnel for development of high performance wind turbine.
4. Wind Assessment
To estimate the wind potential on the complex terrain, the wind speed and turbulence intensity of the flow around the simple terrain model are measured in wind tunnel.
5. Remote Sensing Technology
It is difficult to estimate wind speed at higher layer for large wind turbines at planning site using standard met mast or numerical analysis. In this study, the wind observation is done using remote sensing system, Doppler SODARs and so on.
